Frequently Asked Questions

What will I learn in my music lessons?

We will make it a priority to get to know each other and clarify your personal musical needs and goals. A seven-year-old at their first guitar lesson will have very different needs from a fifty-seven-year-old taking up piano for the second time after taking lessons as a child. The main reason to choose Jacob as your music lesson provider is that he is extremely sensitive to every student’s individuality. We will work together to make a plan that will fit your needs and musical preferences. At the first lesson we will discuss your favorite type(s) of music and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child.

What styles of Music do you teach?

A wide variety of styles from classical, rock, pop, and jazz to country, R & B, Latin, and blues.

Do you offer lessons for both children and adults?

All students are welcome, from ages five to one hundred and five. The music education needs of students of all ages from beginners to advanced will be meet.

Will the lesson be at the same time each week?

Yes, your lesson will normally be the same day and time each week.

Do I have to sign a long-term agreement or contract?

Semester minimums for lessons are not required. Every student is on a month-to-month basis. If you are ready to start, you have nothing to lose.

What if there are holidays or 5 weeks in a month?

Pay for the lessons at the beginning of the month. When there is a holiday and lessons are cancelled, you will have the option to reschedule the lesson before or after the holiday. If you choose not to make up the lesson, your account will be automatically credited for that lesson by the end of the month. In the instance that there are 5 lessons in a month the total cost will be $250 instead of $200.

What materials will I need?

A decent guitar, guitar picks, Mel Bay’s Modern Guitar Method Grade 1, music stand, metronome, manuscript notebook (not tablature), and a folder for handouts with a pencil.

How much should I practice every day?

At least 40 minutes a day. Most professional musicians break their practice time up into several short practice sessions a day. At a bare minimum, the guitar should be in your lap at least once day. Progress is a result of priority.
